Breast Lift

Breast lift (mastopexy) is a plastic surgery that raises and reshapes sagging breasts into a firmer, more youthful form. It removes excess skin, repositions the areola and nipple higher, and reshapes glandular tissue. It can be combined with implants to add volume. At Aesthgery clinic in Pilsen, mastopexy is performed by experienced plastic surgeons with emphasis on natural, long-lasting results.

Who is breast lift suitable for

Breast lift is intended for women whose breasts have lost firmness and shape due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight loss, or natural aging. Characteristic signs include sagging breasts, nipples pointing downward or below the level of the inframammary fold, and loss of natural volume in the upper breast. An ideal candidate is a woman who has completed pregnancy and breastfeeding and wishes to restore the shape and position of her breasts. If breast volume is insufficient, mastopexy can be combined with implant placement — this combined procedure is very popular in practice and delivers comprehensive aesthetic improvement. Surgery is also possible in younger women with congenital breast ptosis. It is important that the patient has realistic expectations and a stable body weight.

The procedure

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately 2–3 hours. The surgeon selects the technique based on the degree of breast sagging (ptosis). For mild ptosis, the periareolar approach suffices — the incision runs only around the areola. For moderate ptosis, a vertical incision below the areola is added (the vertical or lollipop technique). For significant sagging, the anchor technique is used with an incision around the areola, vertically downward and along the inframammary fold. Excess skin is removed, the areola and nipple are repositioned higher, glandular tissue is reshaped and the breast is closed into its new, lifted form. If augmentation is part of the procedure, implants are inserted before tissue reshaping. The resulting scars gradually fade and become significantly less noticeable after 12–18 months.

Recovery and post-operative care

After surgery, the patient typically stays at the clinic for 1 day. A compression bra is worn continuously for 8 weeks and is key to proper healing and maintaining achieved results. Sutures are absorbable; the ends are trimmed at approximately 3 weeks. Swelling and bruising gradually subside over 2–4 weeks. Physical activity is restricted for approximately 4 weeks — particularly exercises involving the upper body and lifting heavy objects. Most patients return to office work in approximately 2 weeks. Sleeping on the back is recommended for at least 4 weeks. The final breast shape is visible after 2–6 months. Regular post-operative check-ups are part of the care at Aesthgery clinic and ensure trouble-free healing.

Risks and long-term results

Mastopexy is a safe surgery, yet carries certain risks like any surgical procedure. Possible complications include infection, asymmetry, changes in nipple sensitivity, hematoma or seroma, and less favorable scar healing. At Aesthgery clinic, risks are minimized through careful pre-operative examination and experienced surgical execution. Mastopexy results are long-lasting, but natural aging, pregnancy, or significant weight fluctuations may affect breast shape again over time. To maintain results, stable body weight and wearing a quality bra are recommended. The vast majority of patients are very satisfied with the result and appreciate the restored confidence and comfort in everyday life.
