Mommy Makeover

Pregnancy and breastfeeding change the body in ways that exercise and diet often cannot reverse. Lax abdominal muscles, excess skin, and sagging or reduced breasts are a natural consequence of childbirth, not a matter of insufficient willpower. A mommy makeover is a comprehensive surgical programme that addresses these changes at once, within a single operative plan.

What is a mommy makeover

A mommy makeover is a combination of plastic surgery procedures that together restore a woman's figure after pregnancy and breastfeeding. It is not a single specific operation, but an individually tailored plan consisting of several procedures.

The most common combination includes:

  1. Abdominoplasty, i.e. tightening and flattening of the abdominal wall
  2. Liposuction of problem areas such as the hips, waist or inner thighs
  3. Breast enlargement, reduction or lift according to the current state of the tissue

The exact combination of procedures always results from a consultation with a plastic surgeon, because every body reacts differently to pregnancy. We therefore recommend not underestimating the initial examination and having a plan drawn up to measure, not according to a general template.

Who is a mommy makeover suitable for

A mommy makeover is suitable for women who have finished family planning and whose weight has been stable for a long time. The procedure addresses permanent tissue changes, not a temporary state after childbirth.

Typical candidates are women with a lax abdominal wall, excess skin after significant weight loss, or a change in breast volume and shape after breastfeeding. Good overall health without uncontrolled chronic diseases is also important.

If you are planning a further pregnancy, we recommend postponing the procedure. A new pregnancy would significantly affect the result of the operation and part of the surgeon's work would thus be devalued.

When is the best time for a mommy makeover

The ideal time for a mommy makeover usually comes six to twelve months after childbirth or after the end of breastfeeding. An earlier procedure is not recommended, because the body is still changing and the result would not be permanent. Postponement, on the other hand, allows more precise planning and a safer course of the operation and recovery.

Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty, i.e. a tummy tuck, is one of the most frequent components of a mommy makeover programme. The procedure removes excess skin, tightens separated abdominal muscles and restores a flat shape to the abdomen.

During pregnancy the rectus abdominis muscles often separate; this condition is called diastasis. Exercise only partially alleviates diastasis; surgical suturing of the muscles is the only way to permanently correct the condition. That is why abdominoplasty solves a problem that liposuction or diet alone cannot eliminate.

Liposuction and body contouring

Liposuction complements abdominoplasty where fat deposits resistant to diet and exercise persist. The most frequently treated areas are the hips, the inner thighs and the waist area.

The method sculpts the body contours and emphasises the result of the tummy tuck. The combination of both procedures brings a more harmonious body shape.

Breast lift or enlargement after breastfeeding

Breastfeeding changes both the volume and the firmness of the breast tissue. The breasts may lose volume, the skin may loosen and the nipple may shift downwards. The solution is mastopexy, i.e. a breast lift, possibly in combination with augmentation using implants.

If it is mainly volume that is lacking, breast augmentation restores fullness and symmetry. If tissue descent predominates, mastopexy lifts the breasts into a higher, firmer position without the need to increase size. The choice between the two approaches always depends on the specific state of the tissue after consultation with the surgeon.

Body contouring after pregnancy

A mommy makeover is a comprehensive response to the physical changes that pregnancy and breastfeeding leave behind and that diet or exercise alone cannot remove. The combination of abdominoplasty, liposuction and breast surgery brings a harmonious and lasting result. The key to a safe and natural outcome is an experienced plastic surgeon and a thorough initial consultation at which a plan tailored precisely to your body is created.

Most frequent questions (FAQ)

What does a mommy makeover operation include?

Most often it is a combination of abdominoplasty, liposuction of problem areas and breast surgery.

Is a mommy makeover a safe procedure?

When performed by a qualified plastic surgeon in an accredited operating facility, a mommy makeover is a safe standard surgical programme. Like any operation, this procedure also carries risks, which is why a preoperative examination and adherence to the postoperative regimen recommended by the surgeon are essential.

Can I still become pregnant after a mommy makeover?

Physically a further pregnancy is possible, but it is recommended to undergo the procedure only after family planning has been completed.

What is the difference between a mommy makeover and standalone liposuction?

Liposuction addresses only excess fat in specific areas. A mommy makeover combines liposuction with abdominoplasty and breast surgery, so it comprehensively addresses all the typical changes to the figure after pregnancy.
